Purple Cone Flowers
Well, it’s mid June and the temperature is now averaging mid 80s (F, around 29C). The flower border at the right corner of the backyard is starting to bloom. The purple cone flowers are native to Illinois and tend to self seed so I have more than I expected this year. They are easy to manage, reliable bloomers and need little care. So here are two pictures to share with all of you.

I have tried growing those flowers in Christchurch but never had the success you have there. Do they need REALLY hot weather to flourish?
Or is it our frosts that don’t do them any favours?
Anyhow its a great photo to enjoy on a chilly frosty morning back here.
Hello Annette, I honestly don’t know what they need. They seem to thrive in Illinois and our winters are quite harsh and at the same time our summers are really hot and humid. I don’t water them much because they don’t care for too much moisture. The purple cone flowers are also known as echinacea.
Chilly frosty mornings are good for a cup of tea and warm breakfast scones with jam. I do miss good ol scones. It’s difficult to find them here.
